Under Article 21 (right to life) of the Indian Constitution, adults have the right to choose a life partner of their choice. Interfering in this right is against the Constitution. When two adults choose each other as life partners, it is an expression of their choice, which is recognized under Article 19 (1)(a) of the Constitution. Apart from this, the Supreme Court has also described inter-caste marriage as an important part of a person's choice, his basic rights and self-respect. According to the court, 'Crushing one's choice in the name of false pride is tantamount to physical torture, which causes the society to shudder.
