What is a ‘black swan’ event?

A black swan is a rare, unforeseen event that has a substantial influence on society or the planet. These occurrences are considered to have three distinct characteristics: they are highly rare and outside the sphere of normal expectations; they have a significant impact after they occur; and they appear probable in hindsight when reasonable explanations emerge.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb, an author and investor, proposed the black swan hypothesis in 2001 and popularised it in his 2007 book The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable.

 रेडियो-फ्रीक्वेंसी आइडेंटिफिकेशन (RFID) एक ऐसी तकनीक है जो विभिन्न टैग की गई वस्तुओं को स्वचालित रूप से पहचानने के लिए रेडियो तरंगों का उपयोग करती है।  रेडियो फ्रीक्वेंसी आइडेंटिफिकेशन (RFID) एक वायरलेस ट्रैकिंग विधि है जो वस्तुओं को ट्रैक करने के लिए टैग और रीडर का उपयोग करती है।  ट्रांसपोंडर, रिसीवर और ट्रांसमीटर आरएफआईडी प्रणाली के तीन घटक हैं।

RFID रीडर लगातार RFID प्रणाली में एक विशिष्ट आवृत्ति की रेडियो तरंगें भेजता है।  यदि जिस वस्तु से RFID टैग जुड़ा हुआ है, वह रेडियो तरंगों की सीमा के भीतर है, तो यह RFID रीडर को फीडबैक प्रदान करता है, तब RFID रीडर फीडबैक के आधार पर वस्तु की पहचान करता है।

निष्क्रिय टैग( Passive tag), अर्ध-निष्क्रिय टैग semi passive tag) और सक्रिय टैग  (Active Tag )तीन प्रकार के RFID टैग हैं जो व्यावसायिक रूप से उपलब्ध हैं।

रेडियो फ्रीक्वेंसी आइडेंटिफिकेशन ,RFID,  चिप्स से डेटा को रीडर्स तक पहुँचाने के लिए रेडियो तरंगों का उपयोग करता है, जिन्हें डेटा प्राप्त करने के लिए लाइन ऑफ़ साइट की आवश्यकता नहीं होती है, जबकि बारकोड स्टिकी टैग पर मुद्रित ब्लैक-एंड-व्हाइट पैटर्न को पढ़ने के लिए प्रकाश की अवश्यकता होती  है.  आरएफआईडी टैग एक powered reader के साथ संचार कर सकता है, भले ही टैग संचालित (powered) न हो।

    बारकोड स्कैनर के विपरीत, RFID स्कैनर एक सेकंड में दर्जनों टैग को प्रोसेस कर सकता है।

 टेक्नोलॉजी ब्रॉडबैंड और प्रसारण के अभिसरण (convergence) पर आधारित है, जिसके उपयोग से मोबाइल फोन पर स्थलीय (terrestrial) डिजिटल टीवी का प्रसारण प्राप्त कर सकते हैं। यह उसी तरह होगा जैसे लोग अपने फोन पर एफएम रेडियो सुनते हैं, जहां फोन के भीतर एक रिसीवर रेडियो फ्रीक्वेंसी को पकड़ है। D2M का उपयोग करके, मल्टीमीडिया सामग्री को सीधे फोन पर भी प्रसारित किया जा सकता है।

इस प्रौद्योगिकी के पीछे विचार यह है कि इसका उपयोग संभवतः नागरिक-केंद्रित जानकारी से संबंधित सामग्री को सीधे प्रसारित करने के लिए किया जा सकता है और इसका उपयोग नकली समाचारों का मुकाबला करने, आपातकालीन अलर्ट जारी करने और अन्य चीजों के अलावा आपदा प्रबंधन में सहायता प्रदान करने के लिए किया जा सकता है। इसके अलावा, इसका उपयोग मोबाइल फोन पर लाइव समाचार, खेल आदि प्रसारित करने के लिए किया जा सकता है। इसके अलावा, यह टेक्नोलॉजी किसी भी इंटरनेट डेटा का उपभोग न करते हुए सामग्री को बिना किसी बफरिंग के स्ट्रीम कर सकने में सक्षम होगा. 

उपभोक्ताओं के लिए, इस तरह की तकनीक का मतलब होगा कि वे वीडियो ऑन डिमांड (वीओडी) या ओवर द टॉप (ओटीटी) सामग्री प्लेटफॉर्म से अपने मोबाइल डेटा को समाप्त किए बिना बहुत ही मामूली दर पर मल्टीमीडिया सामग्री तक पहुंचने में सक्षम होंगे, . यह तकनीक ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों के लोगों को सीमित या बिना इंटरनेट का उपयोग किए, वीडियो सामग्री देखने की सुविधा प्रदान करेगा.

 इससे मोबाइल स्पेक्ट्रम के उपयोग में भी सुधार होगा और बैंडविड्थ फ्री हो जाएगी जिससे कॉल ड्रॉप कम करने, डेटा स्पीड बढ़ाने आदि में मदद मिलेगी।

What is west Nile Virus?

The West Nile Virus is a mosquito-borne, single-stranded RNA virus. According to the WHO, it is “a member of the flavivirus genus and belongs to the Japanese Encephalitis antigenic complex of the family Flaviviridae”. Culex species of mosquitoes act as the principal vectors for transmission. It is transmitted by infected mosquitoes between and among humans and animals, including birds, which are the reservoir host of the virus.

The virus was first isolated in a woman in the West Nile district of Uganda in 1937. It was identified in birds (crows and columbiformes like doves and pigeons) in the Nile delta region in 1953. Before 1997, WNV was not considered pathogenic for birds, but then, a more virulent strain caused the death in Israel of different bird species, presenting signs of encephalitis and paralysis.
