Constitution Day

When and why was the decision to celebrate Constitution Day taken?
In 2015, as the 125th birth anniversary year of Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment had notified the Central Government's decision to celebrate this day as 'Constitution Day' on 26 November.  This day is celebrated to promote the sense of respect among the citizens for the constitutional values.

This is the day when the Constituent Assembly of the country duly adopted the existing constitution.  It is the Constitution that makes us realize the feeling of a free citizen of a free country.  While the Fundamental Rights given in the Constitution give us our rights by becoming our shield, they also remind us of our responsibilities in the Fundamental Duties given in it.  Every year 26 November is celebrated as Constitution Day in the country.  26 November is also known as National Law Day.

The present Constitution was duly adopted by the Constituent Assembly of the country on 26 November 1949.  However, it was implemented on 26 January 1950.
